10 tips for breast cancer prevention
1. Avoid becoming overweight. Obesity increases the risk of breast cancer after menopause, the time of life when breast cancer is more common. Try a body mass index under 25 to maintain.
2. Eating healthy to avoid tipping the scale. Adopt a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and fewer soft drinks, refined carbohydrates and fatty foods. Eat lean protein like fish or chicken and red meat in moderation, if at all. Eat whole grains. Choose vegetable oils over animal fats.
3. Keep physically active, even if started later in life. It reduces the overall risk of breast cancer by about 10 percent to 30 percent. All you need is a moderate exercise such as walking for 30 minutes five days a week.
4. Little or no alcohol. Alcohol is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.
5. Avoid hormone replacement therapy. Hormone therapy at menopause increases the risk of breast cancer. If you have to take hormones to treat symptoms of menopause are able to eliminate that contain progesterone and its use within three years. "Bio-Identical Hormones" and hormonal creams and gels are safer than prescription hormones and should be avoided.
