Ways to Prevent Breast Cancer

As breast most cancers is a illness that's on the rise, there are a number of things that may be completed to assist stop its development. The primary thing that we can all do, each women and men (males can get this disease as nicely) is to adopt and maintain a healthier lifestyle. Approach to do that embrace: consuming extra greens and fiber and having a lower fats consumption, exercising commonly, getting enough relaxation and adopting a constructive outlook on life.

Now, that last one may have a few of you scratching your head, but it's integral. We develop into what we think about. So the more we preserve our thoughts upbeat, the extra good issues "appear to" happen to us. When one is joyful and content, the body responds to that and gives more power and heightened immune levels. Conversely, when one is not, we really feel tired and possibly sick.

The tips listed above are generally frequent sense and go a protracted way to serving to prevent breast cancer. I'll cowl a few choices you could not learn about below.

One prevention method is named chemoprevention. Essentially, that is the usage of drugs. For breast cancer in particular selective estrogen receptor modulator is used. What this drug does is block estrogen absorption within the receptors, which causes any most cancers cells to stop growing.

One drug that's accredited by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and has been proven to lower lumps and cysts and can be used in both early and later levels of breast cancer. Negative effects can include weight achieve and increased uterine most cancers risk.

Another choice is what is know as preventive mastectomy. This is the surgical removing of the breast or both breasts. This is a considerably excessive preventative measure against breast most cancers, but can reduce the danger by close to ninety%. However, not all the contaminated tissue may be eliminated, so there may be still some danger of most cancers development.

There are also natural methods for the prevention of breast most cancers that are less invasive. No matter technique one chooses, it is important to discuss all options together with your physician and family. The choices listed right here can go an extended strategy to reducing the danger of breast cancer.

How many women have hot flashes? Chances are pretty close to zero. But now it can be a reason to celebrate, the heat wave. The researchers say women who have hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms are falling ill at fifty percent or less risk of breast cancer, according to the Center of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research against Seattle.

"We know that hormones important for the risk of breast cancer, and we also know that the symptoms of menopause occurs mainly due to changes in hormones experienced by women as they go through menopause," said lead author and epidemiologist Breast Cancer Dr. Christopher I. Them.

The study, published in the online issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention surveyed, 1437 postmenopausal women, 988 of whom had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Women who were between 55 and 74 years, was asked about the symptoms of menopause, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness, irregular or heavy menstrual bleeding, depression and anxiety. The researchers found an association between women, the more intense hot flashes and ill with a very low risk of breast cancer was.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American women. About one in eight women in the United States (12%) developed invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. Diagnosed in the year 2010, approximately 207 090 new cases of invasive breast cancer among women in the United States, with 54 010 new cases of noninvasive breast cancer (in situ).
For women with severe symptoms of menopause, affecting the relative risk of cancer in both breasts, most common - invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive lobular - was reduced by an average of 50 percent, than women who don not have 'the reported symptoms of menopause.

Findings: Vitamin D Might Help Prevent Breast Cancer

Studies have shown vitamin D is an essential part of building healthy bones, but can also help prevent breast cancer?

This is the issue of cancer biologist at UC Glendon Zinser, PhD, hopes to answer a translational research is currently underway.

Zinser received a grant from the pilot study rail Cincinnati in 2008 on the role of vitamin D and fatty tissue in the development of breast cancer to investigate the hypothesis that the active form of vitamin A can help prevent or treat the disease.

Geographical studies have shown that people living in areas where they are exposed to more sunlight a lower incidence of cancer. Sunlight causes the body to produce an active form of vitamin D that promotes bone health, but Zinser said that also appears to have cancer prevention properties.

Studies have shown the active form of vitamin D may be effective treatment option for breast cancer cells in the laboratory.

"The real challenge is to understand how the active form of vitamin D contribute directly to human cells of breast cancer without disturbing the delicate balance of calcium in the body," said Zinser, Associate Professor of Cancer and Cell Biology at University and researcher at Cincinnati Cancer Consortium.

"Our results suggest that adipose (fat) may play an important role in allowing the body to an inactive form of vitamin D to its active form contributes to cell growth control.

"If this were true in preclinical models and at the cellular level, we have a new and promising approach for prevention of breast cancer at our disposal," he added.

Around Cincinnati has provided funding for this pilot study, Zinser to the original data needed to justify research grants broader, and the largest gathering.

So far, confirmed that adipose tissue is able to inactive form of vitamin D to its active form. The next step is to determine whether the active form, the growth of normal changes of epithelial cells. If so, you will test whether you can change the appearance of breast cancer.

Support for UC Cancer Research

The annual cycling event around cancer research benefit from the UC Cincinnati will be held Sunday, June 14 at Yeatman Cove / Sawyer Point. Cyclists of all ages and skill levels are invited to register and pedal for a good cause: cancer research.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Cancer Institute UC Barrett at the University Hospital to support local breast cancer clinical, translational and basic research programs, like Zinser of the study.

Routes start at staggered times 6:30 Children under 8 years can be a Junior Bike Rally mile drive through the operating point of Sawyer, from 11 hours

After the children Bike Rally, each child receives a participation medal and take part in free activities, including celebration balloon artists, magicians, jumping from one house, gift bags, food and music.

5 Fab Foods to Prevent Breast Cancer

October is awareness month for breast cancer, but it's always a good time to share with your Fab Five foods that can prevent breast cancer. 22,700 Canadian women had breast cancer in 2009, let me help you, not one of them - laws sister!
My career in the health and well-being is born of suffering that I saw every day as a document - especially if a breast ultrasound radiologist. My experience with my patients in the wonderful, but seemingly endless this cancer was initially made me wonder - "What We Do," and even better: "What can we do?". I can not tell you how it is overwhelming a diagnosis of breast cancer in these women beautiful, and I saw several times a week. Although research of cancer when he was well, I desperately wanted, like my patients than ever, first place. It has launched an amazing journey of research in preventive medicine, health and well-being and I learned sooo much and I can not wait to share.

The other day I saw a breast cancer cook fundraising for sale. I commend this woman well-intentioned volunteer their time to make a difference, I had this thought flash bake sale was a bit "like loaded guns waiting to deploy a suicide hotline. (. This is not the single flash before I metaphorically) And I saw an obese patient in the clinic this week, the problems of the breast and uterus, she asked, "What could cause this, I wonder?" It's so hard in a fast busy clinic to get into this and I want you to take green tea and a chat .... But there is a time and place and it is the www.canadianhealthcoach.com. So, if for some tips that can save lives - Learn more! There were 102 Canadian women died of breast cancer this week, so start today and BGOOD4U not wait another week.

And if you had the power to prevent breast cancer?

Many women do not know the power they have and how their choices on their health. There are never any guarantees in life. But as the choice to wear seat belts, not smoking and look both ways before crossing the road can save lives - what happens if you knew that the choice can prevent breast cancer? If you have a breast cancer survivor, if you knew what you could do today thrive beyond the survivor? (I'm not ready for a sales pitch here. I am free to give advice, but I want you to take breaks that you have a choice and made the difference.)

First:
Did you know that only 5 to 30% of breast cancer is hereditary?

A study of identical twin sisters (New England Journal of Medicine 2000) showed that 73% of the twins not to fall ill with breast cancer, even if they were twins. This indicates two common misconceptions I hear from patients. First, many women think cancer is inevitable, when a family. I tell these women that the history of the family means that they are more likely to obtain information, screening and their concerns taken seriously. On the other hand, other patients with no family history, mistakenly believe that they are clear. But 87% of women with breast cancer have no family history. We're all in this together.

But the good news is that - YES! Breast cancer is largely preventable!
Research shows that 70% of breast cancers can be prevented. But with at least 1 in 9 women (and growing) still have breast cancer, does not continue to do what we have always done.

So let it. (This advice bite size and there is much more information, practical advice and recipes will be available in my book and the posts to come.)

FIVE prevention of delicious foods for breast cancer:

1. Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables

A New York study found that women who most broccoli had a 40% lower risk of breast cancer. Another study found that Polish women who emigrated to the United States increased by 3 times with the movement had breast cancer. If you have studied their diet, they found that the cabbage and sauerkraut 3 times a week, a much lower risk of breast cancer than those with a single weekly dose.

BGOOD4U chest PLAN: Goal for 4 or 5 (1 / 2 cup) servings per week of broccoli, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, beets, turnips, bok choy, mustard or cabbage. Sneak into the omelette or above the pizza home.

2. Dark green leafy vegetables

Folic acid and fiber in abundance here and this is good news for you. A study of New England found a reduced risk of breast cancer with increased consumption of spinach. (Alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer and depletes your folic acid, so if you enjoy the healthy antioxidants in red wine from time to time, you must sign in with a nice spinach salad for example. (A Harvard University study found that women with moderate alcohol consumption, diet rich in folate was associated with a reduced risk of 45% of breast cancers.)

ORGANIZE YOUR CHEST BGOOD4U: Aim for at least one daily serving of dark green leafy vegetables as part of your portion sizes from 50 to 10 fruits and vegetables / day.

3. Whole grains

You are now experts in the grains of the last post titled healthy cereal healthy profits. Whole grains are low glycemic, high fiber foods so good for your health in many ways with their fiber and phenols. They can reduce plant lignans estrogen and slow the growth of cancer cells. Women's Heath study found that sedentary women of high glycemic ("sugar spike") have been feeding 135% more likely to develop breast cancer! A Canadian study of 50,000 women found that women on high glycemic postmenopasual (" sugar spike "diet) A 87% increased risk of breast cancer. Honestly, how bad must white bread? Give it up before I tell you that you can do with white bread.

BGOOD4U chest PLAN: Aim for at least 3 days for portions 1 / 2 cup of whole grains. Oatmeal in the morning and one cup of brown rice for dinner has you covered.

4. Linseed

Flax is an integral that deserve special attention when it comes to preventing breast cancer. Flaxseed has natural plant oestrogens (lignans), similar to the stimulation of breast cancer cells by blocking estrogen. A study of postmenopausal women with newly diagnosed breast cancer found that 25 g of ground flaxseed per day (in a muffin) significantly delayed the growth of breast cancer. (Now that's what I call a magic muffin.) This investigation is still ongoing on how it affects different types of breast cancer or how it interacts with drugs, but I want watch and keep you informed.

BGOOD4U chest PLAN: Aim for at least 1-2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed per day. Sprinkle on your breakfast cereal. Add to smoothies or flax buy bread.

5. GREEN TEA

Studies have shown that drinking five cups of green tea per day were associated with a reduced risk of 22% of breast cancers - and in women with stage 1 and 2 breast cancer have a reduced risk of 46 % relapse! Drink, sir. Cheers! There are health benefits as green tea (not to mention, black tea and white too).

BGOOD4U chest PLAN: Aim for at least 1-5 cups a day. Start small, if you're not a tea drinker and gradually intertwine a. If you already have a lover of green tea to increase. Add the lemon or other citrus fruits can significantly increase the amount of antioxidants of green tea, which in various configurations for your body. Do not fall in green tea beverage business, "but it's a lot of added sugar and calories. (I recently demonstrated at a workshop of the most popular with more sugar than Coca-Cola).

Well it is certainly much more than I want to say on this subject, but first we'll start with the Fab Five. You just have to sit around your fingers crossed that it will not be an "unfortunate". Is it something you can do today. U out! Sometimes we know that these things are good for us, but we do not seem to everyone as well. I hope this post gives you an extra boost and I think you'll agree that my chest BGOOD4U PLAN is fun, quick and easy. You can do this.

 Be good for you!
Better yet - give the best of your breasts!

Top fastest ways to prevent breast cancer

What is needed to prevent breast cancer? The answers are there - if you can browse all research, it is. An estimated one in nine will develop breast cancer and of 28 women will die. With statistics like this, we want clear answers, no hassle.

But here's another statistic: nearly 40 percent of breast cancers can be prevented by changes in lifestyle. This estimate comes from a new report published by the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF). The study is an update of the Chapter of breast cancer in the 2007 Food, nutrition, physical activity and cancer prevention: a global perspective. The first project examined 873 research studies on the prevention of breast cancer, including factors such as diet, physical activity and weight. Factors in a new report 81 studies published over the past two years.

It is much research to be done - that's why a group of experts to make sense of it all. The project's goal is to look at the data as a set of strategies and drag demonstrated that people can use to reduce their risk.

The recommendations of the group:

Maintain a healthy weight. We heard repeatedly that obesity or overweight is a risk factor for many diseases. When it comes to breast cancer, the extra weight (especially around the middle) is a risk for postmenopausal women. Thin is better, provided they are not avoiding extreme underweight. (However, for pre-menopausal women, a little "big plus is a good thing if it reduces the risk).

Excess body fat affects the flow of hormones, and makes the ideal conditions for the development of cancer. It can also stimulate the body's inflammatory response (which in turn contributes to cancer progression).

For the year. Physical activity is important at any age, but even after menopause. Previous research has shown that the effect of the immune system and helps reduce estrogen levels - a known risk factor for breast cancer.

We know the rules, at least 30 minutes a day most days of the week. But the amount and intensity make a difference? Yes, the report said. Reduces the risk of breast cancer increases the amount of movement.

In addition, a study in October 2008 by the National Cancer Institute found that vigorous regular exercise reduces the risk of breast cancer in older women by 13 percent overall. For women who are a healthy weight, the number increased by 30 percent. Similar effects were not considered an asset "light".

Breastfeed exclusively for six months. And "food for thought for young mothers and good news for women who do the" old ". Breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast cancer at any age. Breastfeeding is good for the breast tissue, as it reduces exposure to hormones and can actually help remove breast cells, with potential damage to DNA.

Anastrozole Reduces Recurrence in Early Breast Cancer

The trial Arimidex, Tamoxifen alone or in combination (ATAC) was a double-blind Phase III clinical study was designed to compare the ability of the AI anastrozole, tamoxifen, and two drugs in combination with cancer recurrence breast cancer in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor positive tumors.

The study included 9366 postmenopausal women with localized breast cancer (eg, cancer had not spread or metastasis). The women were randomly assigned to adjuvant 5 years with anastrozole alone, tamoxifen, or a combination of both. (The combination group was then abandoned because the results for patients in this group were essentially the same as those in the group treated with tamoxifen.) Most participants (84 percent) had a disease of hormone receptors positive.

The results after a median follow up of 68 months (5.7 years), published in 2005 (see summary of newspaper) showed that, compared with tamoxifen, anastrozole prolongs disease-free survival by 13 percent, increased the time a decrease of 21 percent, reduced the incidence of cancer spread to other organs (distant metastases) by 14 percent and reduced the incidence of breast cancer in the other by more than 40 percent. The differences are even greater when the analysis was restricted to women with hormone receptor-positive tumors.

In addition, anastrozole was associated with less severe side effects (endometrial cancer, blood clots, hot flashes and vaginal bleeding) than tamoxifen, although the fractures and joint pain are more common in patients in the anastrozole. However, overall survival was similar in both groups.

In 2006, researchers reported data from the ATAC trial showed that anastrozole was better tolerated than tamoxifen and has resulted in less severe complications (see the journal abstract). In addition, anastrozole had a favorable overall benefit-risk profile compared with tamoxifen, anastrozole and women who had a lower relapse rate than those treated with tamoxifen.

Mainly on the basis of results published in 2005, treatment with an AI has been the standard adjuvant treatment of breast cancer in hormone receptor positive, even if tamoxifen is still considered a reasonable alternative. Other studies involving a total of more than 30,000 women, confirmed that treatment with an AI alone or after tamoxifen was beneficial in patients with breast cancer hormone-sensitive.

This study reports the results from the ATAC participants were followed for a median of 10 years.

This analysis was an advantage for anastrozole compared with tamoxifen show. In women with hormone receptor positive tumors, which are randomly assigned to treatment with anastrozole had a rate of 4.3 per cent or more absolute recurrence of breast cancer after 10 years, and a rate of 2.6 per cent lower distant metastasis never, or randomly assigned to treatment with tamoxifen.

The differences between anastrozole and tamoxifen in time to recurrence, breast cancer and disease-free survival was greater in the first two years of treatment, but were maintained throughout the follow-up period, including period after treatment was completed. However, the authors found that the "effect of transferring so-called" - where the benefits go beyond the treatment period - began to decline after about 8 years.

During treatment, women in the anastrozole group had fewer treatment-related serious adverse events than women in the tamoxifen group. After treatment was completed, however, the rates of serious adverse events resolved between the two groups. Patients treated with anastrozole reported more fractures during treatment than those on tamoxifen, but after completion of treatment of fractures was again similar in both groups.

In patients taking tamoxifen had high rates of endometrial cancer and melanoma than those who anastrozole. There was a slight trend toward increased cancer and lung cancer patients treated with anastrozole compared with those of tamoxifen. Overall, however, other types of cancer, breast cancer occurred with similar frequency in both groups.

The death toll of the patient, with or without breast cancer recurrence was similar in both groups after 10 years of follow-up. Thus, treatment with anastrozole does not improve overall survival compared to tamoxifen.

A vaccine to prevent breast cancer? Not just yet

Last week, the virus, the vaccine this week. So we really on the verge of a revolutionary vaccine "could" put an end to breast cancer - as some media have said?

No, not yet, anyway.

The securities in question has been raised by an article in Nature Medicine, American researchers have described a series of experiments were conducted with mice specially bred.

No human study has not yet materialized, and there is reason to believe that researchers have adopted the approach would have been difficult to deal with women.

The U.S. team focused on a protein that appears to be found only in rapidly dividing cells of the breast, called alpha-lactalbumin. Scientists have thought that this protein, which is often present in high concentrations in breast cancer cells, would be a good way to deal with "target" of breast cancer.

One way to do this, they speculated, was one of alpha-lactalbumin to use as a vaccine for the first cell of the immune system to attack cancer in the same way as doctors use fragments viruses and bacteria to protect against diseases like measles and tuberculosis.

To begin to test their theory was correct, they did what all scientists when they came across an exciting new idea tested in a model system. In this case, the team used mice that are genetically predisposed to develop breast cancer - these tests to determine whether an idea is worth pursuing.

The document (which is excellent is explained in detail on the choice of the NHS "Behind the" Site News), researchers have shown that immunization with a handful of these at-risk tumors of mice with alpha-lactalbumin is in fact the speed at which then developed breast cancer cases in the lower - suggesting perhaps that their idea was good.

They also showed, in another group of mice, the vaccine prevented human cells of breast cancer develop.

As we are often on this blog, this is only the beginning of the story, instead of the end.

None of the "model" is primarily a woman with breast cancer. The effects of the "switch" of the immune system of a woman for a protein in breast tissue of the group are completely unknown and difficult to guess.

And, most importantly, the vaccine seems to have problems in mice results in the production of milk - so the use of this approach can be problematic for pregnant women or nursing mothers should never be attempted in humans. There is a huge amount of research for this initial work forward, and no guarantee of success.

In fact, there is no vaccine against cancer has successfully developed so far. The famous "vaccine against cancer of the cervix" is not really a vaccine against cancer in this way - it protects against a virus, HPV, which can lead to cancer in some women, these researchers are very territory familiar ..

So we have a series of titles promising progress has not to our success in another species - are honest, most of the articles mentioned that the actual work was done in mice.

However, anyone with an eye on the media recently could be forgiven for thinking that the cancer was "cured" when, as discussed too often, usually on the first day, and needs much more work to do.

And, as Martin pointed out yesterday, the heads can - and must - cause of the alarm, care and, perhaps worst of all, false hopes among those who read them.

Pills May Prevent Breast Cancer (by Doctors)

A new start for millions of women are given drugs against cancer, not cure the disease, but to avoid that.

Doctors say that women at high risk may benefit from taking the pills, but is not without risks.

Doctors have used tamoxifen to treat breast cancer since 1970, but now open their doors to women for prevention.

Can be used before cancer develops, and reduce the risk of breast cancer to reduce by 40 percent.

The disadvantage is that it can cause early menopause, or perhaps other cancers.

"If you look at the numbers, the risks and benefits, is estimated for every thousand women at high risk of 20 will prevent breast cancer, and we are about six blood clots and uterine cancer about three and both are much less severe cancer, "said Jack Cuzick, a researcher.

Can vitamin C cure or prevent breast cancer?

High doses of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) have been proposed as a cure for various cancers, including breast cancer. Vitamin C is an essential micronutrient for human health. Relatively high consumption of vitamin C (eg, food consumption) were associated with low risk of childhood leukemia, as well as oral, skin, stomach, pancreas, colon, endometrial and prostate cancer. Excessive vitamin C was also associated with a lower risk of certain cancers, including bladder cancer in men and colon cancer in women.

The case of vitamin C is based in part on the observation that patients with breast cancer tend to have low blood levels of antioxidants compared to healthy women, indicating that patients have the antioxidant defenses of the body is exhausted and are vulnerable to oxidative damage that could further promote breast cancer. Laboratory studies have shown that concentrations of vitamin C in the growth of various human cells slows breast cancer. We are not aware of the academic studies that a survival advantage for women treated with high doses of vitamin C. Based on data available to show that vitamin C can then feeding against breast cancer, protect supplementation with relatively high doses of vitamin C can not be beneficial for cancer patients or survivors. In fact, the evidence suggests that supplements of this type can actually promote cancer.

Most patients with breast cancer survivors and those at high risk in a good position to get their vitamin C through their diet (see the list of food sources below). Supplementation with vitamin C is not necessary and treatment with high doses of vitamin C would be counterproductive. The vitamin C supplements should not be used during chemotherapy.

Vitamin C appears to work synergistically with other nutrients in the diet to fight against cancer. On the other hand, high doses of vitamin C off the anti-cancer effects of certain micronutrients known to have a protective effect against breast cancer.

Blow Jobs Prevent Breast Cancer

Women who swallow sperm act of fellatio and run regularly, 1-2 times a week can reduce the risk of breast cancer by 40 percent, according to a study by the North Carolina State University found.

Doctors had never suspected a link between the act of breast cancer and oral sex, but new research conducted at North Carolina State University is suggesting that there may be an important link between the two.

In a study of over 15,000 women suspected of having performed regular fellatio and swallowed the ejaculatory fluid, over the past decade, researchers found that those who actually performed the act regularly, 1-2 times a week had a lower incidence of cancer breastfeeding than those who did not. There was no increased risk, but for those that do not work regularly.

"I think it removes the last shade of doubt that fellatio is actually a healthy act," said Dr. AJ Kramer of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, who was not involved in research . "I am surprised by these results, but researchers are also pleased that a relatively simple way to prevent breast cancer in women under the age of discovery."

Researchers at the University said that although breast cancer is relatively uncommon, any steps taken to reduce risk would be a wise decision.

"Only with regular presence in order to reduce your chances to encourage all women out there to fellatio an important part of their daily routine," said Helen Shifter, a researcher at the University. "Since the rise of research, I try oral sex, at least once every other night to reduce my chances."

The research is published in the Journal of Medical Research Friday.

In 1991, 43,582 women died of breast cancer, as reported by the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Len Lictepeen, Deputy Medical Director for the American Cancer Society, said women should not overlook or "play down" these findings.

"We hope that the situation of women and the change in practice, resulting in a severe reduction in the number of future cases," said Lictepeen.

Do not just say that the study shows no increased risk of breast cancer in those who, for whatever reason, unable fellatio regularly.

"There is certainly a fertile ground for further research. Many have volunteered to research now in the planning," he said.

Almost all women at some point, the act of fellatio to be performed, but the frequency at which the event occurs that makes the difference, say the researchers. The key seems to be the enzyme protein and count in the semen, but researchers are still waiting for more test data.

The study consisted of two groups, 6246 women aged 25-45 years who performed fellatio and swallowed on a regular basis over the last five to ten years, and 9728 women who had not or did not swallow. The group of women who had performed and swallowed a breast cancer rate of 1.9 percent and the group that did not have breast cancer by 10.4 percent.

"The results suggest that there are other causes of breast cancer in addition to the absence of regular fellatio," said Shafter. "It's a cause, not the cause."

Higher vitamin D may help prevent breast cancer

We already know that vitamin D is essential for bone health. Scientific research shows that work in many other tissues and may provide some protection against a range of diseases including some cancers to offer. For this advantage, however, we may need more than current recommendations.

At the American Association for Cancer Research in April 2006, the researchers offered conclusive evidence that increasing vitamin D intake may help reduce the risk of breast cancer. In a study of 1760 women scientists in California found that the risk decreased steadily increased blood levels of vitamin D. The highest level (greater than 52 nanograms per milliliter, or ng / mL) correlated with a reduced risk of 50% of breast cancers, compared with the lowest amounts (less than 12 ng / mL). To obtain a blood level of 52 ng / mL, would be a couple of times the recommended dose, which is 400 International Units (IU) of vitamin D per day for women aged 50-70.

A second study by Canadian researchers, found that women who have more leisure or more of vitamin D during adolescence and adulthood were 25% -45% lower risk of breast cancer.

Although he did not peer-reviewed data are consistent with growing evidence that increasing vitamin D helps to prevent many cancers, including breast, ovarian, colon and prostate.

Vitamin D is a hormone whose production begins in the skin exposure to ultraviolet B radiation from the sun with the sun long enough, we would not need the power of vitamin D. But the dependence of the sun is a problem. Skin cancer is a concern. Sunscreens help with this concern, but also block the rays that stimulate vitamin D synthesis in the skin. In addition, people living above 40 degrees north - in Boston, for example - can not get enough vitamin D from the sun in winter.

Other factors that influence the amount of vitamin D can be done by the sun. Darker the skin, exposure to the sun than it needs. And as we age, our skin becomes less able to trigger the synthesis of vitamin D.

Natural sources of vitamin D - especially fatty fish like salmon and mackerel - are limited. Fortified foods (milk and some breakfast cereals) to provide small amounts.

Nutritionists have already begun to recommend that adults from 800 to 1,000 IU of vitamin D per day to arrive. A standard multivitamin usually supplies 400 IU, you can get a supplement of 400 IU of vitamin D. Additional calcium supplements often contain vitamin D, so that in the calculations. Do not overdo it, a lot of vitamin D, which is usually the result of an overdose of supplements, an accumulation of calcium in tissues. The upper limit is still 2000 IU daily.

The most active form of vitamin D is D3 (cholecalciferol), the type of product in the body. Most supplements contain D2, which is made of plant material. Some experts say that the D3 is more effective. (And 'more expensive and harder to find.)

Do not take cod liver oil. It contains high amounts of vitamin A as retinol, which at high levels can be harmful to bones.

You can usually get enough vitamin D from 10 to 15 minutes of sun a couple times a week without sunscreen on the face, arms and hands. Many health experts see little wrong with this level of exposure. For longer periods in the sun, use sunscreen.

Watercress Can Help Prevent Breast Cancer

Cresson, excellent food, the prevention of breast cancer, according to a study released today, watercress, yesterday in the British Journal of Nutrition conducted by the Center for Cancer Research at the School of Medicine, Southampton General Hospital, the UK.

The experimental results of the use of a 3-ounce serving of watercress by healthy participants who were previously treated for breast cancer reduces the presence of an important factor in tumor growth six eight hours after eating watercress. The study shows that watercress is as therapeutic as traditional drug treatments with tamoxifen and Herceptin, and regular consumption has the potential to provide valuable protection against cancer in general.

Dr. Nicholas Perricone, the renowned anti-aging specialist, will discuss the role of anti-cancer watercress in his latest book, Forever Young (www.getforeveryoung.com). According to Dr. Perricone, "Watercress has the ability to disable HIF1, a signal emitted by the cells of the blood request. HIF1 if not controlled properly, otherwise harmless pile of pre-cancerous cells can develop into invasive tumors to form . Perricone says, "Scientists are looking for anti-angiogenic agents for years, because if we can stop the blood supply, we can kill the cancer. And it looks like watercress can do it."

The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has recommended, with a half-hour of physical activity per day, limiting alcohol to drink only one day to lose weight and reduce the risk of breast cancer prevention.

"It is very disturbing that Great Britain there are still tens of thousands of cases of breast cancer could be prevented each year. Breast Cancer, drink, drop, more physically active and have less body fat can be avoided , "the Telegraph quoted Dr Rachel Thompson, Deputy Head of information Technology for the World Cancer Research Fund, as I said.

"There is convincing evidence that alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer. In postmenopausal women there is convincing evidence that body fat increases the risk and it is clear that regular physical activity probably reduces the risk of breast cancer, "he added.

Statistics show that 47 600 women developed breast cancer in 2008, a quarter of cancer patients who died later.

However, the World Cancer Research Fund estimates that 42 units would be about 20,000 of these cases, cancer can be prevented if women develop a healthier life.

In addition to protecting the bones and strengthen the immune system, studies show that vitamin D for some cancers, including breast, ovarian, prostate and colon occurs. Exciting new research shows that the United States alone, thousands of new cases of breast cancer could be prevented each year if more women had optimal levels of vitamin D.

A study by Cedric Garland and other major vitamin D researchers has found that women high levels of vitamin D to 52 ng / ml for half the cancer risk of breast cancer than those with 13 ng / mL carry! Garland estimates that 58,000 new cases of breast cancer in the United States each year could, by increasing vitamin D levels of 52 ng / mL occur. Imagine what the overall impact would be!

Only recently, this region was 32 100 ng / mL. Make sure you ask your provider for your current level of vitamin D. If you have a deficit, the best way to quickly increase vitamin D, a vitamin D3 supplement. What healthy fish provides 300 to 700 IU, but the milk provides only 100 IU per glass.

An experimental vaccine prevents breast cancer in genetically modified mice, after a preliminary examination on the June 10 issue of Nature Medicine. The vaccine has been tested in humans.

Although the approach is appealing, it is too early to know whether a vaccine could also help women prevent breast cancer, says Massimo Cristofanilli, Department of Medical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, which was not involved 'experience.

Many promising drugs in mice, very few people to succeed, says Cristofanilli.

Receive only an average of 250 approved drugs in laboratory studies or animal models, according to the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

In the new experiment, immunologist Vincent Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute tested vaccine against a protein called alpha-lactalbumin, in many breast cancer cells. The mice in the experiment were genetically modified to lead them to develop breast cancer.

Although none of the 50 vaccinated mice developed cancer, everyone.

The protein was not found on normal cells of the breast tissue, except when women breastfeed, the study said. This gives researchers hope that the vaccine would not damage normal cells.

But Cristofanilli said that the human vaccine trials would be difficult, especially since women already at high risk of breast cancer has tried various options for prevention.

Women who inherit mutations in the BRCA genes - those women at highest risk of breast cancer - can virtually eliminate the risk through a preventive mastectomy.

Other high-risk women, such as a family member with breast cancer, tamoxifen or raloxifene, drugs can also reduce the risk.

Barbara Brenner, executive director of the Breast Cancer Action, said that women should not hope for a mouse vaccine.

"We have cured mice of cancer for years with drugs that are not within range for humans. Why should we wait for a "vaccine" better, based on a study of mice? "
