Exercise to Avoid Breast Cancer?

Exercise influence the risk of breast cancer in women after menopause? You are right about the benefits of exercise for young men and women who are already treated for breast cancer. But there is good news for older women, as well. A study from Germany found that women have to protect the greatest risk - those over 50 years. In fact, the study found that exercise reduces the risk of breast cancer in this age group more than in women aged 30 to 49

Researchers at the German Center for Cancer Research and the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, cycling data on physical activity habits of more than 10,000 women, including physical activities such as gardening and hiking shops. They found that the protective effect regardless of a change in body mass index (BMI) or weight, an unexpected result, because we know that the exercise is made up of fatty deposits in the estrogen assumed helps. The most common type of breast cancer is estrogen dependent. The German study showed that the exercise of the desired type of the disease (so-called "estrogen receptor-positive") is reduced, but had no effect on the risk of other types of breast cancer. The study was conducted in the first series published in December 2008 Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.

An earlier study in 2003 showed the journal of the American Medical Association that women who begin not to reduce the exercise until later in life, their risk of breast cancer by 20 percent. It was a brisk walk for half an hour walk five times per week, enough to reduce the risk even among women with a family history of disease that no children had (to reduce a risk factor long recognized), and who had taken hormone replacement therapy. He also found that 10 hours of training per week can the risk be reduced by 30 percent.

To reduce your risk of breast cancer, the American Cancer Society recommends 45-60 minutes of physical activity in addition to normal daily activities on five days per week or more.
