Nearly 40 percent of breast cancers in the United States could be prevented if more women to maintain a healthy weight, drink less alcohol, exercised more and breastfed their babies, according to a report released Tuesday was.
The report, 81 new studies on the relationship between lifestyle and the fight against cancer showed that 70 000 cases of breast cancer in the United States could be avoided each year alone.
"Now we are more confident than ever that by maintaining a healthy weight, physical activity and limit the amount of alcohol they drink, women reduce the risk," said Dr. Martin Wiseman, of the American Institute for Cancer Research / World cancer Research Fund, who led the study, said in a statement.
"We estimate that approximately 40 percent of cases of breast cancer in the United States, about 70,000 cases a year could, by making these simple changes every day can be avoided," added the AICR Susan Higginbotham.
The report, written in www.dietandcancerreport.org/ recommends that people exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Men should limit alcohol to two drinks per day and women should have one.
Breast cancer and 400,000 women die each year worldwide, and 40,000 men in the United States only.
Many studies have a low fat diet, regular exercise shown to maintain lean body mass and breastfed babies can prevent breast cancer. However, a significant proportion of cases caused by defective genes and is not related to lifestyle.
